I don’t know about you, but kid activities can be a serious budget buster around here!

That’s why I love the challenge of finding the perfect fun and frugal craft idea to do with our kids.

We are in the process of moving right now, and while packing up, I found tons of broken crayons!

They were everywhere!  I couldn’t help but try to think of the perfect broken crayon craft idea.

If you love a fun and frugal craft, this broken crayon silicone mold craft for kids is for you!

It’s easy to do, and my son loved watching the broken crayons melt into adorable little dinosaurs using this mold.

Keep reading for the simple instructions for this craft project, or you can watch on YouTube (below) if you prefer video.

Instructions:

Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees.

While you are waiting for the oven to heat up, start peeling the wrappers off of your crayons.

Break or cut crayons into 1/2″ pieces.  Larger pieces are okay, but might take longer to melt.

We sorted our crayons by different shades of each color, but you can put whatever colors you want together to make the crayon color of your dreams!

Start filling up the silicone mold with pieces of crayon.

Slightly overfill each mold, because the crayon will take up less space as it melts.

Place the mold onto a baking sheet.

Put the mold and baking sheet into the oven for about 15-20 minutes.

Once the crayons are melted into the mold, remove from the oven and place in to the freezer.

Allow the crayons to harden in the freezer for about 30 minutes.

Feel the bottom of the mold to see if it is warm.  If it is still warm, return to the freezer for a few more minutes.

Once the crayons are completely cool, you can pop your crayons out of the tray.
